June Update: Here's What You Can Do With Version 7.0

Version 7.0 has now been rolled out across all accounts – have you had a chance to try out the new features yet?

This month's newsletter will give you a quick introduction to three of the features released in 7.0. They’ll help you receive a steadier income from donations, make online payments easier for members, and make sure your website is secure in next to no time. Read on to find out how!

Also in this month’s newsletter, you’ll find:

Recurring donations

Donations are crucial to your nonprofit, and have many lesser-known benefits. By setting up donations that automatically recur, donors can avoid the hassle of repeatedly making one-off donations, and your organization gets reliable income that makes it easier to budget.

This is feature is exclusive to Wild Apricot Payments, and so is only available for accounts based in the US and Canada.

You can enable recurring donations when you click on Donation settings in the Donations menu:

If you select one or more of these frequency options, they will appear on your donation form so that donors can choose to make either one-time or recurring donations. Full administrators and donation managers can edit or stop recurring donations, and donors can also stop recurring donations from their member profile.

One-click checkout

We all know the feeling: you’ve selected what you want to pay for, you’ve gone to check out – and then you have to spend time entering all your details. With one-click checkout, your paying customers can choose to save their credit or debit card details for faster checkouts in the future. That means fewer abandoned carts, and less frustration for your customers!

One-click checkout is also a Wild Apricot Payments exclusive, and so is only available for accounts based in the US and Canada.

Let’s Encrypt self service

Most visitors are much more likely to trust websites that have an https URL and a padlock symbol – these show that your site has an SSL certificate. If you use a custom domain and don’t have an SSL certificate, you might be missing out on website visits and payments.

Let's Encrypt provides a free security certificate to secure custom domains, and you can now order a security certificate for your custom domain yourself and get it installed within approximately 30 minutes.

When you’re adding your custom domain, all you need to do is go to the Domain name screen within Site settings and check the box next to the Install free SSL certificate option:

Lets encrypt self service domain settings

If you’ve already added your custom domain but don’t have a security certificate installed, you can order one by clicking the Check button beside your custom domain name, then clicking the Issue certificate link

As always, you’ll find more detailed instructions and information on this features on our Help Site.

Finances on the Mobile App: Keep on Top of Your Invoices, No Matter Where You Are

Lots of the organizations we work with run events, and whether that involves international conferences or weekly cycling club meets, it often means being out of the office and away from their computers.

With the admin app for iOS and Android you can complete tasks in your Wild Apricot account directly from your smartphone. You can check in attendees, add registrations, modify contacts, and lots more — and now you can manage your organization’s finances too.

In version 3.5 of the admin app we added a new finances module. With this, you can:

  • Review unpaid invoices

  • Send email reminders about unpaid invoices

  • Add notes to an invoice

  • Find all financial documents for a member in one place

  • Accept credit card payments

You can find more details about the iOS app here, and about the Android app here.

June Support FAQs

What is the difference between the income report and the payments report, and why don’t they match?

The income report displays a summary of invoices generated during the specified time period. The payments report summarizes the payments received and refunds issued during the specified time period. So, an invoiced amount might be included in June’s income report, and the corresponding payment might show up in July’s payments report.

Are Wild Apricot sites ADA compliant

Wild Apricot sites are not ADA compliant out of the box, but we do provide all the tools you need to make your site ADA compliant. You may need to implement custom HTML and CSS solutions to provide the required level of accessibility.

For a full list of design features and standards that would help your site become ADA compliant, we recommend going to the www.ada.gov website. We also recommend contacting one of our design partners for assistance if you don't have already access to the necessary technical resources.

Why am I getting a 404 error when I try to test the link to an admin only poll?

You can’t test an admin only poll by clicking the Share button and pasting the copied link. The Share button is for sharing a poll with members. To test an admin only poll, click the Preview button.

NEW This Month: Meet the Team

Sonia Khosla, Marketing Programs Manager

Sonia headshot

Hi! My name is Sonia Khosla and I'm the Marketing Programs Manager at Wild Apricot. You may know me from our monthly expert webinars.

About me: I like to read, cook and hike - especially in the summer. I like to learn new things and travel to new places.

At Wild Apricot, my job is to provide educational content to our customers through our webinars. I love using the webinar channel to provide free, accessible content that brings value and growth to our customers in the nonprofit and association management space. When I create a webinar, I feel passionate about the topic and the speaker I present with. It’s exciting to see audience members get to take back practical steps to help their organization grow and achieve their goals - with time to spare.

What I love about working with Wild Apricot is the people. Not just the staff and colleagues I work with, but also the influencers and thought-leaders in the industry.

My advice is to learn often. The internet is an incredible tool when used effectively. There is almost always someone out there experiencing the same pain points as you, and there are almost always suggested solutions. Try to create something new by innovating existing methods and sharing your ideas with the people around you to get feedback.

Blog of the Month: How to Provide Member Development Opportunities in Your Organization

IMember development webinarf you’re experiencing trouble with your member retention, it might be time to take a long, hard look at the member development opportunities you’re providing.

Many organizations find that members typically join because they want to grow on both personal and professional levels. They aim to meet new contacts, become leaders in their field, and get involved on a deeper level. And if these expectations aren’t satisfied, you’re not likely to retain members down the road.

That’s why creating strong and relevant member benefits isn’t just recommended — it’s vital for your organization’s growth.

You might already be providing benefits like this in your organization. But if you’re hoping to update them, or want to change up your membership levels, we’ve come up with six examples from real organizations to give you more ideas.
