December Update: A Year In Review

december updateTwo weeks ago, I announced my decision to move on and finish my time at Wild Apricot at the end of this year.

As I mentioned before, this is a bittersweet moment for me. 

Wild Apricot has been such a huge part of my life for such a long time! Although I have pondered moving on from Wild Apricot for a while, I only wanted to do so if I felt Wild Apricot was in good hands. 

As many of you know, Wild Apricot was acquired by Personify in September. I have spent a lot of time with their leadership and as I got to know them better I gained confidence in them. As well, my colleague Dmitry Ivanov, who started Wild Apricot with me 12 years ago, has now taken over as the General Manager of Wild Apricot within the overall Personify organization. I am grateful to Dmitry for everything he has done for Wild Apricot, and for taking the reins.

I am looking forward to watching from the side as Wild Apricot software keeps flourishing further in the coming years. I’m also looking forward to seeing all of you make a huge impact on this world. And hopefully our paths will cross again. It’s a small world after all.

On another note, I would like to reflect on everything that’s happened this year at Wild Apricot.

Here is a brief, month-by-month overview of 2017:

  • January: We committed to developing our most requested wishlist items.
  • February: We prepared for our big Version 5.10 launch.
  • March: We launched Version 5.10. The launch included Scheduling Email Blasts, Revised Emails List Screen, the Not Attending feature, as well as many bug fixes.
  • April: We announced our decision to move to Amazon Web Services (AWS) to improve performance. We also launched a new website theme, Kaleidoscope.
  • May: We launched our Facebook Group, The Wild Apricot Membership Tribe. The group now contains 2,500 membership managers who actively support one another every day. If you haven’t yet joined, click here to join now.
  • June: Our mobile app began accepting credit card payments from PayPal Here.
  • July: We made the move to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and immediately experienced a 300% improved website response time. We also added the ability for admins to restrict file access.
  • August: We published a full explanation to one of our most-asked questions: “Why does it take so long to fix bugs in your software?” We also added the ability to create and edit events in our mobile app.
  • September: We had a big announcement this month — Wild Apricot was acquired by Personify, an Austin-based constituent management software company.
  • October: The long-awaited Membership Cards feature launched. We also added one-click registration with the new RSVP feature.
  • November: We wrapped up our biggest online webinar event of the year: The Membership Growth Online Summit. Nearly 4,500 membership managers attended the five webinars over five days. If you missed any of the webinars, you can access the recordings here.
  • December: I decided to move on and finish my time at Wild Apricot.

Looking forward to 2018, the team is working on many more features, including one of our highest-voted wishlish items, the Online Store. You’ll be hearing much more about this feature in upcoming newsletters, so stay tuned!

 

New Feature: Automatically Copy Emails to Secondary Addresses

You can now automatically CC your email messages to your contacts' secondary or alternate email addresses. Copies of all automatic emails and manual email blasts will be sent to each of the secondary email addresses you enable. 

To store your contact's secondary or alternate email addresses, you need to create one or more custom text fields (unless you are already collecting this information). You can add the field(s) as common fields, if you want to store them for all contacts, or membership fields, if you want to store them for members only.  

Once you’ve set up one or more custom fields to store secondary or alternate email addresses, you can enable the automatic copying of emails to these addresses. 

Email Settings

You can select up to 3 secondary email address fields.

Within your email log, a message will be marked as delivered if it reaches as least one of the recipient's email addresses. Similarly, a message will be marked as opened if the recipient opens the message using any of their email addresses. 

On the Links tracking tab, the number of clicks per link will include clicks from any and all messages, whether sent to primary or secondary addresses.

Secondary addresses will not be listed on the Failures or Delivered tabs in the email log.
