Join us for a conversation on managing and growing a technology education program. To be successful, you’ll need curriculum, classroom space, computers, volunteers, strong project management skills, and of course marketing to bring in the learners! We’ll discuss how to combine thoughtful, forward-thinking strategies with easy-to-implement tactics. Facing limited budgets and resources? We’ll share many helpful resources along the way.

This webinar is part of NTEN’s Digital Inclusion Fellowship program, aimed at supporting digital inclusion initiatives, sharing best practices, and showcasing digital inclusion programs. You do not need to be a Fellow to attend; all are invited.

6) Inclusive Hiring Practices

December 6, 12:00 PM (ET)

"Implicit bias" is a term being thrown around a lot these days. And when it comes to hiring, we know it can create a smoke-screen that poses a real threat to our ability to hire the best possible people -- instead setting us up to hire people who we "like the best" or think are a good "cultural fit." It's one of the major factors that cause us to hire people who are like us instead of experiencing the amazing benefits of having a diverse team.

But what actually is implicit bias? How does it show up in hiring processes? And what can we do about it anyway?

This webinar is for anyone who is in a position to hire people, and wants to make sure they're not letting their own biases cloud their ability to make the right decision.

We'll also dig into some simple steps that anyone can take to improve the chances of recruiting and hiring a diverse staff. We're not going to solve all the challenges around fostering diversity in the workplace in this webinar, but you will leave with a handful of specific tools you can use in the context of hiring, and information on how to keep digging deeper to ensure equity across race, gender, disability, and more in your organizations.

This webinar is designed to help attendees identify soft risks in their organization and give them the tools to make changes to processes and culture to minimize and address these risks.

  • Understand how your organization's culture of volunteer engagement may be opening it up to soft risk.
