Version 5 Is Live – the Roll-out Continues

It’s finally here: Version 5 of Wild Apricot is now a reality!

All newly created accounts have been running on Version 5 since April 19th. Conversion of existing accounts has started – previously created trial accounts were our guinea pigs :-)  – and the process has worked quite well.

The first batch of remaining accounts will be converted on April 28th and then every 1-2 weeks.

What’s Next: Upgrade Timetable

Upgrade dates announced

Details of your upgrade date can now be seen in admin view on your Wild Apricot dashboard page. In addition, all administrators of paid Wild Apricot accounts should have received an “Upgrade Scheduled” email with details about the date your account will be upgraded to Version 5.

We’ll take care of everything

On your scheduled upgrade date, as always, you won't have do anything yourself to convert your account and your website – we'll take care of everything, even if you have a heavily customized website, full of theme overrides.

Version 5 Preview - now available

If you’d like to test drive Version 5, we’ve just added a Preview button (on your dashboard in Admin View) to help you get familiar with the new version.

This preview copy loads a snapshot of your existing site (from April 17th) running on Version 5. It will have all of the Version 5 capabilities – you can use it, for example, to get your team familiar with the changes. Accessing the preview copy requires entering the password specified – to make sure nobody confuses your preview website with your actual live website, and to hide it from search engine crawlers.

Please note:

  1. Any changes you make to the preview copy will be discarded so none of the revisions made in the preview will be incorporated when your actual site is upgraded to Version 5.
  2. If you have a heavily customized website using theme overrides, your account will not show the preview link yet – we are working on manually converting those accounts and will enable preview links as each one is processed over the next few weeks.

Version 5 Overview Webinar

We’ve created a webinar to preview what’s coming in this release. The Version 5 Overview webinar on Wednesday, April 30 @ 3:00 PM ET will offer a brief video highlighting key enhancements in Version 5 and then a Q&A session. Since we already have over 800 people registered for the webinar, we’ve created a forum to capture and prioritize questions in advance – please add your questions there!

If you are unable to attend the webinar, you can watch the pre-recorded video portion here: Version 5 Overview.

Online help for Version 5

During the gradual upgrade process we are be maintaining two separate sets of online help pages: one for Version 5 (help.wildapricot.com), and for those who are not yet upgraded, a Version 4.6 (help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC46/).

When you go to our online help site from within your admin view you will automatically be directed to the appropriate help site.  If you access Online Help in a different way, you’ll see a banner at the top of the page directing you to the appropriate help site.

Also, when you search the help site, matches related to 4.6 and 5.0 are displayed in two different tabs:

Reminder about restrictions on theme overrides during upgrade process

As noted in last month’s Software News, most Wild Apricot sites will be transformed automatically to Version 5. Transformation of highly customized websites (with theme overrides) requires manual work – our developers are transforming about 300 most complex sites manually.

Due to this, further changes to theme overrides were temporarily disabled for all accounts on April 12th.  They will be re-enabled once your account is transformed to Version 5.

We hope you are as excited about Version 5 as we are!

You’ve been asking for easier and more flexible site design tools and we have rebuilt our web builder from the ground up. With this release, Wild Apricot clients get website design and maintenance tools similar to the leading specialized website builders – while also keeping the benefits of seamless integration with event registration, online membership applications and self service, online payments – and much more.

Remember - for details on what’s coming in Version 5 you can:
