Wild Apricot Software News April 2013 - Payment News and Mobile Plan

Lori Halley 29 April 2013 1 comments

Two diverse feature areas to talk about in software news this month -- some recently launched payment service features and resources, and our future plans for mobile support.

Online Payment Services

Taking payments through the web can be a really important piece of the puzzle when it comes to making your organization easier to manage. We know that collecting membership fees, event payments and donations are among the biggest reasons that people like you consider using membership software like Wild Apricot in the first place. So supporting a payment system that works for you and your organization is a critical part of the equation.

Until recently, we supported just a few payment systems within Wild Apricot. These included a few options from the ubiquitous PayPal repertoire as well as Google Checkout and Authorize.net. This list was and is very comparable to what a lot of systems like ours provide, but over the years we've had many (many!) requests to add other systems. So, thanks to our Wild Apricot version 4.5 release earlier this month, I'm pleased to share our expanded list of supported payment systems:

  • PayPal, including:
    • Payflow Pro
    • Payments Advanced
    • Payments Standard
    • Express Checkout
    • Payments Pro
  • Authorize.net
  • Google Wallet
  • IATS
  • BluePay
  • 2Checkout
  • Global Payments
  • Moneris
  • Skrill
In addition, we've also added support to CRE Secure, which serves as a bridge allowing you to use additional systems we don't support directly. The additional systems from CRE currently include:
  • Chase Paymentech Orbital
  • Elavon
  • eProcessing Network
  • First Data
  • Litle
  • NMI
  • Orbital Enterprise
  • PayLeap
  • SagePay
  • SkipJack
  • TSYS Transit
  • USA ePAY
All told we now provide direct or indirect support for 25 different payment services. While there are at least twice this many systems on the market, this does give us one of the largest payment service coverage lists of any online service.

For more information about taking online payments in Wild Apricot, please check out our help page on the subject and as always, don't hesitate to contact our support team with any questions.

Understanding Online Payments: Two New Articles to Help

Now, with great choice can come great complexity. If you're not already using one of these systems you might be thinking "how the heck do I choose from one of these 25 systems? Which is best for my organization?" Don't worry, we've got your back! We're launching two new articles in our Membership Knowledge Hub designed to help answer these kinds of questions: Understanding Online Payment Services and How to Select an Online Payment Service ProviderThese articles aren't just about selecting a payment system for use with Wild Apricot, but are intended as general resources that anyone can use to help pick the right service for their organization. I'm quite proud of these articles, and I hope you'll share them with any friends and colleagues who you think might benefit from them.

Mobile Back-end Preview

With the release of our version 5.0 later this year, we'll be providing new web themes that will make it easier for your members and supporters to view your Wild Apricot website on their mobile devices. For more information on all of the changes we have planned for 5.0, please check out https://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Version+5+preview.

After 5.0 it will still be some time before we launch our new mobile back-end functionality for administrators, but we are already making plans. Our design team has created a nifty presentation that shows some of our ideas for checking-in and recording payments from event attendees. Please check out this presentation now

Although it will be a while before we make this part of Wild Apricot I'm quite excited about the potential.  As always we'd love to hear your thoughts on this or any other future development ideas on our community Wishlist forum.
