Looking for Big Insight Into Small Membership Organizations

Lori Halley 01 November 2012 0 comments

Are you a volunteer or staff person managing a small membership organization?

Do you want to find out more about how other groups are managing their organizations?

Everything you always wanted to know about small membership organizations

We know that there are many small membership organizations that are solely volunteer-led or have a skeleton staff of one or two multi-tasking individuals. And we’d like insight into your world.

We also recognize that the volunteers and staff of small organizations often work in isolation, without the opportunity to network and share information with their peers. In addition, much of the benchmarking research and best practices about membership revolve around larger, more well-established and well-staffed associations.

Surveying the small membership community

So we decided to gather some insight into the world of the small and largely volunteer-led member organizations - through an online survey.

We are reaching out to the small membership community to see if we can find out more about who these small membership organizations are, who’s leading them and what they do. For example, we’d like to know:

  • Does size matter? What’s different about small membership organizations?
  • Who leads these groups and what roles do volunteers play? (e.g. in managing your website; renewal; member database; events, etc.)
  • How are small membership organizations funded?
  • What’s the key challenge small orgs face in building their membership?

Share your Insight and Register to Receive the Survey Report

We’ve launched an online survey to try to capture these and other key insights into small membership organizations. So if you are a volunteer or staff of a small organization, we hope you’ll participate in the survey and share this with other volunteers and membership staff too.

The survey should only take 5-10 minutes of your time and once you complete it, you can register to receive the full survey report! We hope to offer insight that will help you benchmark against your small membership peers and identify best practices from your community.

UPDATE - DEC. 3, 2012: This survey is now closed.

Thanks to those who participate in the survey - and stay tuned to this blog in December for survey highlights.
