How to Start a Club - First 5 Steps

When you start a club, you’ll quickly realize that there are a lot of details to sort out!  Whether it’s a social club, a sports or recreation club, chances are it has grown out of a shared passion for a common interest. But once you decide to create a more formal club structure, where do you start?

What are the First 5 Steps?

To help groups that are in the early planning stages of a new club, we developed an article - How to Start a Club -  that offers suggestions on where to start.  This resource includes suggestions for the  first 5 steps you might want to take, including:
  1. Identify the Club’s Objectives:
    • Why form a club?
    • What are your long-term goals?
  2. Determine the Club’s Structure:
    • What type of organization is it
    • What about a Leadership Structure
    • Charter, By-laws?
  3. Define Your Membership:
    • Who are you targeting?
    • Will you charge membership fees?
    • How will you recruit?
