Blog posts and articles on Technology, Social Media and Leadership stories came out on top at AssociationJam.org this month, in terms of the numbers of submissions, views and reader votes, with Fundraising, Volunteers and Membership not far behind.  Here’s a look at the most popular links submitted to Association Jam in October 2010, by topic category:

Do you want to improve retention and recruitment at your association? Here are 3 ways you can start.

9 Steps To Use Twitter For Marketing And Engaging Others About Your Event
Jeff Hurt | Midcourse Corrections

You’ve decided to jump into the world of social technologies and use Twitter for your event. Now it’s time to think seriously about your Twitter engagement and marketing goals.

Yoda Had It Wrong
Jeffrey Cufaude | Idea Architects

When did "trial and error" become "do perfectly or fail"? We need to restore the discipline of "trying a lot of stuff and see what works" if we hope to invent more positive futures in/for associations.

Engagement Equity Erosion - What the Heck is it and How Can Nonprofits Avoid it Through Volunteerism?
Carol Anne Moutinho | Association Resource Center ARC Blog

What Keeps You Awake at Night (Part 4) – Volunteer levels are steady or are on the rise for many NPO's across Canada. So what’s the problem, you might well ask?

Online Fundraising Mistakes
Tom Belford | The Agitator

Fundraising Success just ran an article, "3 Common Online Fundraising Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)", featuring the views of Thomas Gensemer at Blue State Digital. As Gensemer sees it, the three mistakes are:
   1. Treat it like direct mail
   2. Focus too much on control
   3. Focus too much on asking for money

Social Media

Two big-name personalities in online marketing tied for top spot in the Social Media category in October – Chris Forbes and Scott Stratten:

Word of mouse: 10 ways to master nonprofit guerrilla social media
Sandra Beckwith | Build Buzz

Chris Forbes, co-author of Guerrilla Marketing for Nonprofits, writes here about social media for nonprofits but his ideas for building "buzz" apply to small businesses, solo-preneurs, authors, and others as well.

UnMarketing for Associations
Deirdre Reid, CAE | SmartBlog Insights

Scott Stratten, aka unmarketing on Twitter, is one of social media’s must-follows for his common sense advice on how to use social media tools. He spoke recently at the Triangle Chapter of the American Marketing Association as part of his book tour for UnMarketing: Stop Marketing. Start Engaging. If he comes to your town, go see him. His advice about social media is easy to apply, plus, he’s hilarious.

Email Dominates Mobile Web Usage
| Marketing Charts

Email represents the largest share of US mobile internet activity, according to analysis from The Nielsen Company:

"Email was the top way mobile users spent online time in June 2010, representing 41.6% of mobile online time. Portals remain as the second-heaviest activity on mobile Internet (11.6% share of time), while social networking has risen to account for a 10.5% share."

What Are You Learning?
Bilou Enterprises | Bilou Enterprises Blog

People never stop learning. In one form or another, we all continue to discover, absorb and conclude, whether we do it in a classroom or not. Ideally, organizations realize the need for employees to continue keeping up with current trends and they budget for this. Unfortunately, this isn’t typical, so what’s one to do?

Do you have something to say to Associations?

If you’ve got a stand-out blog post, article, presentation, video, or other online resource to help associations and non-profits be more effective, we invite you to submit your links to AssociationJam.org and vote for your favorites. Hi Rebecca! Just an FYI - it looks like the link for the first mention of AssociationJam.org is missing the second "i" in "association"

    Great stuff as always! Kudos!
