Behind the Scenes @ Wild Apricot: Wild Apricot 4? That's Fantastic!

There's been a big change to the new release that we've been working on for the past few months. And with it we at Wild Apricot are approaching a very significant milestone.

Whenever I've talked about the work we've been doing, I've always called it 3.5. Most of you know what those numbers mean: The first is the major version of the software, indicating how many times we feel we've significantly updated it. The second number counts the times we've updated that major version. The more we looked at what we were doing and what we were offering, the more we came to the realization that this wasn't your typical minor update. This was something bigger!

May I present to you - Wild Apricot 4.0!

When we launched version 3.0, we said that three was the magic number. Well, for this one, we're saying that this release is THE FANTASTIC 4!

And just like the Fantastic Four of comic book and movie fame, each part of the new release has distinct powers that all work together for create a formidable team!

First Mr Fantastic. In the comics he's a brilliant scientific mind who can stretch his body into any shape. This is kind of like our new Import Wizard which can analyze your contact information and decide the best place for it to go, but also lets your stretch and customize your database on-the-fly.

Next Invisible Girl. Sue Storm is also very intelligent, but can also make herself invisible. This lets her sneak around and get extra information and do behind-the-scenes work without anyone noticing. This reminds me of our Financial Management module. Most people using your site won't notice any difference, but you'll see big changes with invoices, reports, and consistent and streamlined workflows for all your financial transactions. You'll always know what's going on.

The Human Torch may be young and reckless, but he's also good looking and charming and always puts his best face forward. You want your organization's online presence to look good, so we've added a lot of new Web Builder functions. You'll be able to create anchors and tables of contents for those large pages. We're also going to be adding features to auto-clean any invisible HTML caused when you copy and paste content. We're also adding a Photo Album functional page, so you can show off all your pictures from your most recent soiree or vacation!

The Thing is big, but he has a heart of gold! Just like all of Wild Apricot when it works together! All of the new tools, combined with our already proven service, means that it's "Clobberin' time" for all those management headaches that keep you from doing what you set out to do: Defeat Galactus...I mean...make the world a better place!

Making a major revision number change is not something we do lightly - It's not just so I could make a few comic book jokes. We feel that we've created something big with this version, something that a lot of you have wanted for a long time, and we want to mark the occasion. It's a big milestone for us, and for Wild Apricot, and at the risk of getting sentimental it's something we couldn't have reached without you and your interest in the product!

Now, having said that, we're already planning version 4.1. Have your say in that one too!

As you can imagine, this has all made for a big week here at Wild Apricot, and it's only going to get more exciting as we get closer to our release date. Stay tuned, true believers!
