Behind the Scenes @ Wild Apricot: What lazy hazy days of summer?

Lori Halley 30 July 2010 0 comments

Summer is a time of fun and vacation. Grills are fired up, beaches are visited, sunscreen is applied, good times are had by all. All winter we look forward to summer with its long days (and baseball season!) and think that this will be the year we get everything done by the 24th of May, and then never touch work again until the leaves start to turn color.

And I'm pretty sure we all know what happens with that plan!

We're at about the midpoint of the summer, and it's been a busy one. But we've had some help along the way. We did our first beta test involving actual clients. We set up some test sites for them, gave them some scripts to work with and asked them to put Financial Management through its paces. We were expecting a little bit of feedback, but we were blown away by how much we got (and continued to get) from our testers. While we can't promise we'll get to everything right away, we are really going to be able to focus our refinements and improvements over the next few releases.

I want to take a moment here and thank, by name, each of those testers that provided feedback to us. Your hard work is greatly appreciated!

I think this chart gives a pretty good idea of how well our beta program worked

I also want to give you a little peak into something we're going to have in version 3.5. Now, it's not the most exciting thing, but it's a little change that I quite like.

When you create an email in Wild Apricot you have a list of macros that you can use to customize your message for the person or action initiated. In the current version this macro list is permanently displayed just to the right of your text editor. But in version 3.5, we're going to add a button to the WYSIWYG bar for the macros. Any time you want to use them, all you have to do is click the "Select macro" button and then check the ones you want, and they'll be inserted into the email.

The more I use this feature, the more I love it. First of all, I find the pop up window is much easier to use and navigate, giving me a better idea of what each macro is and what it does. Secondly, it means we can make the text boxes for the email that much bigger, giving you more usable space on the page. It's a little thing, something you might not notice, but it going to make writing emails and email blasts that much easier!

We also encourage to post your ideas to the Wishlist. No wish too little, no idea too small! Here are some of the discussions going on now.

I'm on vacation next week, taking a breather and having my own magical mystery music tour. That means there will be no Behind the Scenes next week.

Until then, enjoy the good weather, and trust me - wear sunscreen.
