What will you do in 2010 that you've never done before to help your associations thrive?

That's the kind of provocative question we like to start out a new year pondering! And appropriately enough, Association Jam's overall top-voted story for the first month of 2010 was Jeff De Cagna's Top Ten 2010 Trends for Associations at Principled Innovation Blog: Not predictions, he says, but "informed estimates of emerging issues" most likely to shape the business environment for associations through the year:

How will these trends inspire you and your colleagues to make 2010 better than 2009?

Speaking of inspiration... by topic category, here are the others in the Top 10 association stories, as voted up by the AssociationJam.org community of members and site visitors, for January 2010:

Is a Freemium Membership in Your Future? | Tony Rossell @ Membership Marketing Blog

The world of membership is changing. For profit companies are actively trying membership models to engage customers. Is it time to take a look at making changes to your membership model?

Want Better Meetings? Cut your agenda in half | Maureen Carruthers @ Low Hanging Fruit

If the thought of another meeting makes you want to crawl in a hole, find out how you can get more done in your meetings by attempting to do less.

Getting It Right | Kerry Stackpole @ Wired 4 Leadership

What are the tough trade-offs your association never seems to get quite right? There is no shortage of ways to go wrong.

Don't Wake Me When You Leave | Judith Lindenau @ Off Stage

How do associations treat potential members? The questions are especially apt in a trade association where membership is perceived as a requirement to do business rather than as a choice based on value.

Non-Profit Toolbox | Trip of a Lifetime

Trip of a Lifetime, a non-profit organization, has complied a non-profit toolbox on its blog. Every week, 6-8 new websites will be added to the toolbox, making it easy for anyone to promote, organize, and track their organization online.

Social Media

Flickr for non-profits – 8 lessons learned | Timo Luege @ Social Media 4 Good

I have been using Flickr for two years to increase visibility of the work of Red Cross Red Crescent. In this post I'm sharing some of the lessons I’ve learned.

Why Print Matters. | Kerry Stackpole @ Wired 4 Leadership

While guessing about the imminent death of an industry is always great sport, the death of print is wildly overstated.... In a time when only 77% of American households own computers, print narrows the digital divide.

"Our Emails Are So Pretty, Our Messaging So Consistent … I Wonder Why Everybody Ignores Them?" | Kevin Holland @ Association Inc

Despite what some people have been claiming for years and years, email to an opt-in list is still the best way to reach an audience and get it to do something, right now. But only when you do it right...

Because Of You | River Valley Church of Apple Valley, Minnesota, created this fun parody of a 1980s rock ballad for a Volunteer Night! [YouTube]
