Case Study: Membership System Saves Time and Grows Enrollment for Cooking with the Best Chefs

Bill Lavery is the founder of Cooking With the Best ChefsSM, a leading cooking school for home chefs in the Chicago area. He has produced more than 6,600 cooking classes and culinary events for food lovers throughout northern Illinois. Lavery uses Wild Apricot as a membership system to help manage his growing business.

Lavery used to spend hours every week on tedious administrative tasks -- updating his database of celebrity chefs, accepting class registrations, scheduling events such as wild mushroom forays and ethnic market trips, and copy and pasting content onto his website.  "I was a WordPerfect user, and I used it for everything, including updating my website," says Lavery. "Looking back, it really was a dizzying process and ate up too much of my time."

In 2007, Lavery began searching for an effective membership system that would help him automate many of the tasks that were taking time away from his true passion: his cooking school!  He started using Wild Apricot to handle the content and administrative tasks involved in registering and communicating with new and existing members, scheduling classes and events and updating web site content.  He found he was able to drastically reduce the time spent on updating his membership records and website.  Best of all, it was as easy as using WordPerfect!  "The beauty of Wild Apricot's technology is its simplicity" he says.

In addition to saving time, Wild Apricot is helping Cooking with the Best Chefs grow its membership.  "Our website features an application form for new members that's quick and easy to fill out. I believe that's why in July and August of 2009, we had the largest number of new members, and this was in the depths of the recession, mind you!"
