Wild Apricot Development updates

Development of version 3.2 is entering the final stages (though it will be a few weeks before it gets released — as it has to go through several stages of testing). We expect to publish version 3.2 around the end of September - early October.

It is shaping up quite well, and here is a little bit of information on the key enhancements included in this version:

  • Member photo albums. Members will now be able to create personal photo albums right in Wild Apricot — and control whether to share them with the public or with other members only.
  • Tracking for the email blast function. You will be able to monitor how many emails have been opened and how man people clicked on each link in your email.
  • Saved searches for contacts — so that you can save your set of search criteria and quickly reuse it
  • Events module/widget — a little "widget" you can insert on your homepage or other pages to display upcoming events from your database
  • Blog posts widget — to display recent blog posts
  • Forum widget — to display recent forum comments
  • Context-sensitive help. When you click on "Help" in your Wild Apricot account, you will be taken directly to the appropriate help page.
  • Using custom fields in emails. (Up until now, this was limited to system fields and some pre-defined macros. Now you will be able to use any of your custom fields in email templates.)
  • Contact details screen will now display contact and membership fields on the same screen for easy review and editing. (We had quite a few people point it out to us how dumb it was to separate them to different tabs in version 3.0. We agree )
  • It will be possible to edit and delete donation records to correct mistakes or clean test data.
  • Credit card entry screen will now be customizable, so that you can match it to cards you actually accept in your merchant account.
  • New design template — "Memo"

Our product management team is already working on the next release — version 3.3. As always, the biggest challenge is to decide which of all these great ideas from our users we can fit into the next release. We already have 56 "candidates" for version 3.3 — and it will have to be pruned down to about 10-15. We are carefully reviewing our discussion forums and support messages to ensure that we address them in the right priority order, so please keep your feedback coming:

Roadmap forum — where you can review and comments on the most important items already selected for development;

Wishlist forum — where you can freely add new suggestions and comment/vote on suggestions by others.

Other news

We keep growing and are now looking to add one more person to our support team in our Toronto office. If you know anyone who might be interested, feel free to point them to http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/tch/1331575462.html

The Wild Apricot team had a terrific time participating in the ASAE and The Center Annual Meeting and Expo, held right here in Toronto on August 15 through 18.  We met a lot of great folks in the expo hall, at the education sessions, and at the social events. With the help of our amazing Association Jam community, we've compiled a great list of blog posts, videos and other resources from ASAE09.  Please check it out at http://associationjam.org/search.php?search=asae09

Giuliano Valentino is known as our "Useful Apricot" and he continues to prove it with the great information he provides in our popular webinars.  The next offering of the "What is Wild Apricot?" webinar is coming up on September 16.  You can register for free at /webinars

Our friends at NTEN (the Nonprofit Technology Network) are conducting a software survey of nonprofit organizations.  Wild Apricot is proud to be included in this survey.  We'd like to encourage you to fill out this survey on behalf of your organization — the results will be made available to all those who participate, and we think it will be a tremendous resource with lots of valuable information. The survey is scheduled to be online starting September 1st at http://nten.org/.
