Wild Apricot Development updates

New version 3.0 was released on May 20th (see Release history)
This was a major update — we introduced new 'contact database' functionality providing a better view on all interactions with members, donors, event attendees, sponsors and prospective members. We also added new website design features, including a visual design wizard and some spiffy new templates.

In fact, we were so excited about the release of version 3.0 that we even wrote a song about it! Check out our video for "Version Three, It's a Magic Upgrade."

Work is under way on our next update 3.1 — due in about 8-10 weeks. It is very early in the product development process and things might still get shuffled around quite a bit, but the current plan includes the following main items:

  • Advanced search in contacts (including by donations and by event registrations). For example, you'll be able to find all people who have not registered for a particular event or all people who have made donations in the last 12 months.
  • Donation form customization — the ability to add/remove fields on the online donation form
  • Web admin restricted to specific pages — e.g. you'll be able to create an administrator who can only edit web pages under 'New York Chapter' but not other pages.
  • Contact form to protect member privacy
  • Editor enhancements: Buttons to add/remove rows/columns in tables
  • Recurring payments support for PayPal Pro merchant accounts
  • New theme — 'Glass'
  • Clean HTML upon content paste — to automatically remove formatting junk inserted when pasting text from Microsoft Word, etc.
  • Art Text — ability to use special fonts, styles and effects for text, e.. to create a cool-looking title for your website header.
  • System performance optimization — to keep tuning and speeding up the system as the number of clients and volume of data grows every week.
Our product management team is already combing through our roadmap and wishlist forum to identify candidates for the subsequent release 3.2.

It is very early to talk about specific enhancements/changes, but one particular area we are in the process of redesigning is what we call 'Bundle memberships' — basically the ability to create hierarchical relationships in Wild Apricot. These come handy for corporate memberships linked to individual employee memberships, team and family/household memberships.
