On May 25, 2018, the European Union will begin enforcing a new set of data protection regulations, known collectively as the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).

The GDPR regulates the collection and storage of personal data for EU residents (including UK residents), regardless of where the organization doing the collecting is located.

Consequently, WildApricot and any of its customers with members in Europe need to understand the requirements of the GDPR, and set up procedures for complying with them.

What Do You Need to Do If You Are Affected?

For WildApricot customers with European members, there are a number of steps that need to be taken to prepare for the GDPR. Here they are:

  1. Review and document what personal data you are storing, where it came from, who you share it with, and who has an access to it. This includes more than just data on your WildApricot site – this includes your own financial records and any data being processed by other third-party services (e.g. PayPal, Google Analytics, Wordpress, etc.).
  2. Review how you seek, record, and manage consent.
  3. Check your procedures to ensure they cover all the rights identified by the GDPR.
  4. Review your current privacy notices and plan for any necessary changes to comply with GDPR.

What is WildApricot Doing to Address the GDPR?

As a company, we also have to maintain compliance with the GDPR. Here is an update on our progress so far.

We have begun reviewing our internal procedures for collecting the personal data of our customers — we use a number of different applications to interact with our customers, and we are looking at how each collects data and obtains consent for collecting data.

We have also started to implement some of the changes needed to ensure WildApricot is compliant. On top of this, we are also creating some help articles for customers to learn more about what they need to do to comply with the GDPR too.
