Yes, you can rename it and use for whatever purposes.There is no special meaning/functionality attached to it, except that it is shown on the member directory listing page.

Right now the only way to do this is to export into Excel (export includes custom fields) and then use Excel filters to do this. But we do plan to add such functionality directly into Wild Apricot in the near future. (I would guesstimate 2-3 months)  

There is no such functionality now, but we are working on something which incidentall might help with this need too. Email us and we might be able to help if it is too time-consuming for to do manually.

Which field do you mean? A custom text field ? Currently its length is fixed. We do plan to add additional field types (including multi-line text fields) in the near future. Can you share what this field will be used for? (Helps in our dev work).  Thanks.
