    Personal member photo albums

    Current behavior:
Members can only upload small pictures into specific fields defined by the administrator of type 'picture'

    Desired behavior:
Each member to be able to upload a set of pictures and have a personal 'gallery' page where they are displayed

    Notes:
    1) Controlling access to gallery - probably like to other member fields (Anyone/members/Nobody)
    2) Reasonable limitations on picture sizes/gallery space
    3) How to expose member galleries to each other

When do you think this may be implemented, this is a main feature I am looking for as it pertains to the purpose of my site idea.

    Re: Personal member photo albums

    Hi again!

This is exactly what I would need too. My website will be targeted to book designers and I'd like them to be able to showcase their page spreads.

One idea to keep the profile "balanced" and not overwhelmed by photos/pictures would be to show only thumbnails on the profile page. They would expand when clicked on using a tool like airtight's "simpleviewer" http://www.airtightinteractive.com/simpleviewer/  or Slimbox...  http://www.digitalia.be/software/slimbox

They are also already secured so people cannot "steal" the images.

    1) Yes, great idea.

    2) Absolutely

    3) Through control access?

    ...

And would it be possible to have a "website" gallery... i.e. not liked to a member.

    My thoughts for the moment.

    :-)

    Hello Danielle!

Thanks for comment, especially for the securing idea and link!

If you do like such a feature you may vote for it by clicking on stars on the top to help us prioritize all items.

Do you think a single personal photo album is enough?

Is some folder structure or may be a search facility required?

Oh... yes!!! several photo albums would be even better... but I'd already be over the moon with one! :-)

Search and folder structure could be interesting too... why not...  I hadn't thought of that..

    And VOTING done!

Have a great week and thanks again for your wonderful work!

    Take care - Danielle

    Re: Personal member photo albums

I have a potential client who wants members-only access to a collection of about 3,500 images. I am happy to host these images elsewhere, but how would I thus enable members-only access?

That is, while it is straight-forward to limit member access within my WA site, how could I prevent non-members using the image host site URL to view the images for free?

The advantage of having the images on a WA served site would be that the image URL would be contained within the members-only site? Somehow, I wish to provide access to images (and descriptions) of this set of images, to a defined type of WA site member.

    Any suggestions?

Any update on the timeline for WA photo album feature? Many thanks.

    Re: Personal member photo albums

    Allan,

We do not currently have a solution for this. You are absolutely right  - for externally hosted images nothing would prevent one member to simply pass on direct image URL to anyone.

And even with files within WA we do not have a solution since only pages are currently access controlled, individual files are not - can be still accessed by anyone who knows direct URL. This particular aspect is one of the things we do plan to change, subject of another thread here.
