    Extra costs for member applications

    Current behavior:
Membership fee is currently fixed for each membership level.
In some situations it is desirable to have it dynamically calculated based on user selections. For example, user might enter a donation, select some special materials - or actual membership fee structure within the same level can be different

    Desired behavior:
    - Administrator to be able to specify extra costs fields in database fields
    - These fields to be displayed in membership application and used to dynamically calculate price

    Notes:
    1) During renewals user should be able to change his selections if allowed by administrator
    2) There should be an option to distinguish between one-time and recurring selections (e.g. if this level uses automatic recurring payments)

    Application Add On's

On my "Application" wish list I would like to be able to add additional products/membership choices on the application.

For example one could Check off that they would like a $5 cd and it would be added to the checkout process.

Also on my wishlist for the application ad-on's would be more room for text.

For example I have a agreement I would like my members to perhaps check off  but there is not enough room.

Otherwise I must say I really like the ease of the application. I've just started the site up and just in two days I've goten several compliments. Thanks!

    Re: Application Add On's

    Hi Kim,

Extra priced items are on our list, so this will be coming.

Room for text - noted, will add to our list.

Thanks for your input, really appreciated!

Option for members to pay other amount in membership dues

    Hi,

Any chance you'll create an option for members to choose how much to donate when they join via the membership form on our website?  We have sliding scale membership dues of $1 - $19.  Regular membership is $20.  Members get a free gift with a donation of $50 or $100, and they can join as Charter Lifetime Members for $500.  Currently, we have to set up each of these as a different "member level" and there is no way for people to donate another amount unless we create even more "member levels".  http://www.origins-usa.org/Default.aspx?pageId=24335

    Thanks,

    Bernadette

Re: Option for members to pay other amount in membership dues

    Hello Bernadette,

We do have this on our list and with your vote we will increase the priority of addressing it.

There is no specific timeline as we are constantly re-evaluating the relative priority of different requests by commonality among our clients, but I would guess we get to do it in Q2.

Payment Plans / Application Add on's.

We are looking at offering payment plans onsite (currently we do that "offline".

With the payment structure changing at the end of the March/April
w/it not going directly to paypal are we still going to be able to offer payment plans.

We are just trying to organize how to handle it with your upcoming changes instead of offering it now, and then having it change. So if you know of a time line that would be nice....like I said last that I read was end March/April I think..

Also do you know if at that time (or at anytime) we will be able to list application add on's, like a shopping cart would have.

Re: Payment Plans / Application Add on's.

Hi, can you elaborate what kind of payment plans you want to handle?

The biggest change in payment we are working on is 'integrated' payment - where people can enter credit card on our servers, without going to PayPal page. This will work alongside with current payment settings, nothing else would change. (Integrated payment is now planned for release ~ end of April)

Application add-ons - you mean extra 'cost items' on the applications, correct? This is planned for the next few months, but there is no specific date yet.

Re: Payment Plans / Application Add on's.

Thank you for the reply. Our payment plans would be monthly. I was not sure how that would work if payment was on your server? Or if they would still need to go to paypal with that?

Regarding Application "add-on's) YES I mean extra cost items.

Currently we have different "membership levels" if a member needs to add a company etc to their membership. With several levels it gets confusing.

Ideally our add on would be a great benefit for us because we could have one membership level (not 6) and they could "add on" something to that.

If they do "add on" a company we would need that company's contact information. I dont know if thats possible?  OR if they would just check a button (not be able to add detail information) or not. IDEALLY we NEED them to ADD that details themselfs or the "add on" buttons would not work for that.

The other thing we need the add on button is we would like to sell/charge for mailing cd's, books etc. Right now they have to contact us and we handle it seperatly. Its very very time consuming....

So that is what we need anyways.

I do want to praise you all for the upgrades. The best one for us was (so far) was the ability for applicants to go back to pay or delete their application. That has saved us soooo much time.

Re: Payment Plans / Application Add on's.

    Kim,

I am happy to hear that self-service function to repeat payment is helping you! I know this has been a pain for a number of clients.

Re 'extra cost item' - can you elaborate a bit more, specifically:

    - these costs would only apply to the initial application, correct? Renewal would use the standard/basic fee for everyone on this membership level, right?

    Re monthly recurring payments:

Our best understanding as of today is that recurring payments will be possible with this option, without people having to go to PayPal site and opening accounts there. This payment mode is a big change and PayPal documentation is not very clear on some points. We will only know for sure in a few weeks. A possibility is that we will not have it at first but add later.

Regarding  selling other stuff: have you considered PayPal buttons? These are used by many of our clients. Another option is Paypal storefront widget, see http://www.wildapricot.com/blogs/newsblog/archive/2007/12/21/the-paypal-storefront-widget.aspx

Re: Payment Plans / Application Add on's.

    Re: Extra Cost Item.

Ok, To be specific: We offer insurance w/our membership. The insurance is in their name, but the member can add a additional insured. Legally we need the contact information for the additional insured.

They YES would need to add it to the "Initial application.

ON Renewal I think the answer  would be no. Because they would need to have that option of having that additional insured again, or removing it. I would like them to have the option at renewal to have any add in again.

    Re: Monthly recurring Payments

Thank you for the feedback on that, I understand that its hard to understand where exactly it will be/when as its a work in progress for you. We are trying to structure things on our end and simply dont want to do one thing to then change it...you know how that goes......Im sure.

    Re: selling other stuff.

Yes we have considered paypal buttons, and I have viewed the widget...looks like it is still in beta testing.

IDEALLY, it would be nice to add on it to the application choice. For example :

We will be discontinuing mailing all there information, because we send them their certificate via email etc. But some request we mail them everything that we allready have online.

Such as certificate, cd's ......etc etc.

This all takes a lot of extra work on our end and increases our cost because our packages are big and rates here in the U.S. are yet going up again. So we have chosen to do less mailing to not raise our rates.

If A member tells us that they want the "mail package" we would like to charge them a small adminstration fee. Like $5 or $10. Its hardly worth making a "store"  or
"cart" for that. If you understand what I mean. Easier for them to simply check a box that they want it and then the $5 or $10 gets added to there membership application total.

I hope that all made sense. All your feedback is so helpful to us too!

Re: Payment Plans / Application Add on's.

OK, so it sounds like the way you would ideally the 'extra costs; to work is for user to be able to select this at initial application - and at renewal. This makes sense. (This would not work together with automatic recurring payments but I guess this OK).

Thanks for the details, it does help and brings us closer to implementing this enhancement.

Re: Extra costs for member applications

I wanted to vote for this one! Its important to us, because we would like to add several other choices to our membership application such as cd, copy of our policy etc....and have it all calculated in according to there selections.

Right now we have to do several different types of membership application levels and people are allways confused no matter how simple we make it.

One application with "choices" and then them calculated would change are organization 10 fold and I believe increase membership levels a lot!

Please vote if you need this!

Any extra details would be greatly appreciated: e.g. what exact selections/options do you need for this?

Re: Extra costs for member applications

Add on cost we would like to perhaps see/have members have a choice on are

    Copy of Policy (mailed)

    Certificate (mailed) i.e.

Additional Insured (they add someone to their membership)

    Fax request

    membership package via snail mail

    CD's

.......and I am sure a more will come to us later...

Different Initial and Renewal membership fees

Our group has a higher initial cost for the 1st years membership and then reverts to a lower cost for the following renewals

Is it possible to add this as a feature ??

    Thanks

Re: Extra costs for member applications

I vote for this as an enhancement as well. At the time of application, we ask members what size cycling jersey they need (we provide one free of charge). We also give them the option to order additional jerseys, and/or a cycling jacket at a cost to them. It would be nice if this could be incorporated in the registration payment so we wouldn't need to invoice seperately for that later.

Re: Extra costs for member applications

I vote for this too.  We would like to give members the option of adding a donation (in any amount of their choosing) to one of our scholarship funds when they register for their membership.

Re: Extra costs for member applications

I'd like to add my vote for this feature. We offer 5 membership packages, each with 4 different price points depending on the size of the member organization. I can easily setup the 5 packages but I'd hate to setup 20.

Re: Extra costs for member applications

I would also like to vote for this option.

Our association currently has three membership levels:

    Individual Membership
Student Membership (reduced rate of individual membership)
Organization Membership (allows for up to 3 individuals to have one shared corporate membership)

For new members applying for the first time, we have a setup fee which is added to the first year of payment.  We require our process to allow for this setup fee one time, then renew at the normal rate.

I don't currently see adding a one time additional fee to new members for each level.  We do need to do this!  So any advances toward this area would be much appreciated :)
