    Incomplete PayPal processing

    Hi,

We just opened the website today and had three event attendees (not members) sign up for an event this morning.  The problem is that all three had issues with their PayPal processing and did not complete payment.  Does this happen often?  Our "test" PayPal transactions we made last week worked fine.

One of the attendees emailed me (webmaster) to let me know she had "problems" with PayPal.  I tried registering and paying for a "dummy" $1 event and was presented a message from PayPal on their first screen that processing could not be completed at this time and that I should return later.  I tried later and got all the way through submitting the credit card, but received the message:

"There was a temporary error. Please return to the recipient's website to complete your transaction.

    We apologize for the inconvenience."

I know that members have the ability to attempt paying at PayPal again if they abort their payment - as is described in the big yellow box on the event.  Does this work for non-member event attendees who do not have a login to the web site?

Are others having issues like this?

Do you know what exactly were the problems they had on PayPal?  I wonder if PayPal is experiencing some glitches today.

Non-member attendees will have to register again and you will gave two records - Pending and Confirmed, you can delete the Pending one.

We have not heard from any other clients having this problem recently. This happens - but rarely.

    Re: Incomplete PayPal processing

Both our treasurer and I were finally able to complete payments for a "dummy" event this afternoon.  It must have been a PayPal glitch.  It does seem that PayPal is acting very slow today.  We just got one more attendee, and I'm watching to see whether this payment gets confirmed shortly.

We'll contact the attendees and either have them register again, or mail in a check.  Thanks.

    Re: Incomplete PayPal processing

We saw in the news that PayPal was down a few hours on Friday.  They said it was rare.

Discovered a few things thru all this:

    1.  When attendees (non-members) try to register again, they are asked to confirm whether they really want to add an additional registration with that email address.  One of our registerers thought this was stopping her from paying and I deleted her so she would try again.  Since this is the only way an attendee can try to pay again, it would be less confusing if the system recognize that the registration is Pending and allow them the option to complete payment on the existing registration, as it does for members.

    2.  The confirmation emails for event attendees received by the account administration email have the attendees first and last name reversed.

    3.  The attended mentioned in 1. had continual problems with the confirm registration step (prior to PayPal).  She made it to the PayPal site the first time (on Fri) but PayPal did not accept her card data.  Then she tried to register again (after I deleted her) and got the error ""Microsoft Internet Explorer" Unable to register, try again at a later time.".  Something similar happened once before (maybe not exactly) when she tried to register a friend on Friday.  Neither her 2nd registration nor her friend's names appear in our attendee list.  We did get an email that payment was incomplete on the friend's registration, but so far have not received anything on the 2nd registration.

    4.  Where do the deleted Event Attendees go?  I've entered notes on the deletions and it would be helpful to see if the friend mentioned in 3. was somehow deleted rather than just didn't show up in the list.

    Re: Incomplete PayPal processing

Yes, PayPal downtime is extremely rare.

    1. Will make a note to change it (we have plans to redesign the registration process anyway)

    2. We will investigate. You mean that macros are mixed up - {First name} insert last name?

    3. We will investigate. Can you please send us their names to support email?

    4. Right now the only way to look up deleted attendees is with a database query. (Will be changed in the future). We will check into this.

2 is confirmed as a bug, will be fixed in the next couple of days.
