    Discount codes for membership applications

    Current behavior:
    N/A

    Desired behavior:
Ability for administrator to create special 'discount codes' which can be entered during membership application or renewal to reduce the price by appropriate amount.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

I vote for this feature... definitely a plus for someone like me who is launching a new website and would like to attract new subscribors.

The "ideal" feature would also allow a "number" of codes. For example: the first 50 subscribors to apply the code get 50% off the first year.

    Just an idea!

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

Yes, this would be nice to offer a renewal discount (which as far as I have learned, can't currently be done.)

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

Discount codes would be great.  I would like to see them more for event registration than membership.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

To be able to add promo codes or discount codes would be a great addition to the software.

I currently am beta testing a product at Promo_Code_Software and have found many uses for the software.

I am sure I would use it here with my WA account when implemented.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

Sounds good.  I'd like to offer:

    • an early-bird membership renewal discount
    • discount pricing on event registrations for members only (non-members pay full price)

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

The second thing is available now - setup two registration types with different prices - one for public, one for members.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

This would be an excellent feature to link membership discounts to event attendees or respondents to advertisements etc.  Definitely a yes vote from me!

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

I would definitely like to see this capability. I would like to hand out brochures at our events as a way of introduce our new website and to encourage people to pay their membership dues online.  In each brochure I would list a secret code.  When people register as members, they enter the code and if their code is correct, they win a free membership.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

I would really like to see a discount code available on the membership application. It's a great way to encourage people to join. I hope it will be available soon.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

We're very interested in "true coupon codes".

I mentioned this in the "wish list" forum, not realizing it was actually on this forum already.

Anything new on it?  I remember you saying that you wanted to get the Authorize.net function working first, right?

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

Any forecasted date for this to be implemented?  I'm really interested in offering a membership discount (either a dollar amount or a percentage) so that some or all of my membership levels can offer a single-parent discount.  Right now, I have a separate "Single Parent" membership level in addition to my "Regular Member" level, but at least one person has complained about the separate designation.  A discount (check box?  Check here to receive the single-parent discount.) on the Regular Member level would be more discreet.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

We are discussing right now whether we can put this into release 2.38 (dev starts early Nov, release Dec). It is still up in the air.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

Here is how our initial thinking on how to implement this:

    • New page under Settings/Members: 'Membership discount coupons'
      • List all existing coupons, ability to view details/edit/delete/add
      • Coupon parameters:
        • name, e.g. 'Conference promotion'
        • Discount - ideally (optional): ability to specify either % (0 to 100) or amount (any positive amount)
        • Secret code: ability to enter your own or generate - like we have in Events
        • usage limitations:
          • How many times: Unlimited/specified number of times (E.g. First 20 people to use this coupon will get $20 discount)
          • (Optional) What membership levels can it be applied to?
        • Active/not active
    • During membership application show a field 'Discount coupon code'
      • Only if valid coupons exist for currently selected level
      • System will validate the coupon and record its usage, deduct it from the total.
        • Total can't become negative, only goes down to zero.
        • This means that a paid level can become free.
        • I think coupons should be recorded in transaction log as payments/adjustment
    • When a particular transaction is viewed, it should be possible to see that a coupon has been used.
    • Each coupon usage should be recorded and in the coupon list it should be possible to how many times it has been used and view all transactions where it has been used
    • Initially this will be applicable for new applications, though ideally we need the same for renewals and events
    • To think through how to reflect discounts in reports

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

With the new group functionality, you ought to allow coupon codes to be assignable to groups as well as different membership levels.

Coupons should also be either for membership renewals, or event registrations. or both.

We give a membership discount to people who are "group leaders" ... we want to take $25 their monthly dues.  This would be ideal!

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

Agree with post about being able to apply discounts to membership or event.  Would like to have unique pre-printed discount codes on coupons that are physically handed out.  Person with the coupon could then enter the code for a certain discount.  So would need the ability to list all unique codes that could only be used once.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

    hi Chief,

We would like the coupon code can be applied to membership level upgrade: Most of our members are Basic membership, we need to give them incentive (coupons) to encourage them to upgrade to Premium membership - that is very important feature.

    Also we would like to have coupon for membership renewal;

Ideally, the coupon should not be case-sensitive - be more user-friendly.

Hope the above can be added to your development plan.

    Thanks.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

how would the upgrade coupon work ?

right now, if they upgrade any time other than when they are due to renew, they get charged for a complete new membership and admin has to see it and go back in to make a refund

I think that would have to be fixed before a coupon could work against an upgrade . . .

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

Discount coupons discussed here are only for new member applications.

What you are talking about is prorating the membership payment when members change their level - applying unused membership fee and/or reducing the new fee if new membership level  is not for a full period. We are working on this - it would be great if you could start a new thread on the wishlist forum to explain how you would like to see it work.

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

    Looking forward to this feature!

Will we be able to give out custom url's with a coupon code already hard-coded into the registration form?  For example, if "Company A" is advertising our organization and we wanted to give them X% of the sign-up fee, could we give them a custom url with a unique coupon/discount code to help track the members they sign-up?

Re: Discount codes for membership applications

This aspect has not come up before so we have not implemented it.

But I think that a decent workaround is to create a separate membership application page (invisible from the main menu) and tell people to use the code in the intro text field. (Though not people would pay attention - but you can still track all visits due to custom page being used)

Actually (wild but educated guess), it might even be possible to create a custom piece of Javascript code which would pre-insert the code into the appropriate field - but you would need to consult with a coder for that.
