    Polls

    Current behavior:
Polls can be implemented only by using third-party tools

    Desired behavior:
    Functionality to create polls
    key aspects:
    - administrator ability to create new polls (1 question with several answer choices)
    - page to view polls/edit
    - for each poll to view aggregated voting results (and individual votes?)
    - for each user with access to a particular poll to be able to vote (and only once) and enter a comment
    - for users to view aggregated poll results

    Automated Voting Tally

Many organizations need to be able to have members (all membership or portions of the membership) vote.  They need to tally the vote.  They may need to keep the vote "blind".  They may need to pull comments made with or without member information.  They may need to track who has/has not voted, even if a blind vote.

Uses might inclde officer elections, board elections, organization specific events like juried member voting, etc.

The member database and automated messaging system should be a good base to be built on to allow for sending voting notices, tracking who has responded, reminding those that have not responded, recording results, tallying counts, etc.

Would need to be able to associate some type of ballot in which each member could vote for one or more selection, depending on the parameters set.  Should also have a free-form comment section.

o allow "blind voting", in that no one can associate a specific vote with a specific person
o allow "vote tracking", in that the system can tell which members have voted and which members still need to vote
o allow "voter selection" based on a database fields - so that the vote can be restricted to a subset of the members.
o reminder system, where the system can be set up to send reminders to members to vote - and tell admin who didn't vote
(in our case, juried members that don't vote lose their juried status after 3 missed votes)
o comments field where people can add whatever comments are required
o summary count that lists the vote results and "cuts/pastes" the comments into a document that can be forwarded to the person being voted on

    Re: Automated Voting Tally

Yes, polls/voting is on our roadmap.

Thanks for the detailed description (I actually believe you have provided this to us earlier as we have similar text in the notes for that feature)

    Re: Automated Voting Tally

I may have - I haven't spent any time on the forum before today.  I know for my personal site at ShopPal there is an active forum that allows for a lot of interaction between store owners.  Starting to get familiar with this one. Don't know if you prefer info here or emailed direct.

    Re: Polls

I would like to see polls as part of WA.  I do not like using outside sources for polls, photo albums, etc.

Keeping life simple by having it all within WA would be great!

    Re: Polls

gaa - BTW - if you want to add your vote for this, find the stars at the top of this post.  Point to the number of stars you want to give it and then click.  You'll see your vote added to the total.

    Re: Polls

I would like polls for a couple of reasons.

    1) Our national chartering associations requires that we annual survey our members. We could use a poll for this.

    2) We currently conduct our annual Board member elections using online polling.

    3) We occasionally interact with our members with quick polls.

    Surveys and Polling

After looking at several products to support email marketing and membership management, one function that seems to be sorely missing from WIldAppricot is the ability to survey and poll.  Often I want to survey what date or time is the best to hold an event.  Or, survey who is interested in volunteering.   I could send out an email blast and compile the resopnses manually, but this is what Wild Appricot is suposed to do for you - autopilot and get your sanity back.  Wild Appricot appears to be a great product, just missing a critical feature.

    Re: Surveys and Polling

You want to add your comments to this post - http://www.wildapricot.com/forums/thread/6809.aspx  that is already on the roadmap, rather than starting a new wish list item.  Don't forget to add a star/vote - not just comments.

The one on the road map, not only asking for basic polling, but voting by sub-groups, automated-nagging to get votes in, etc.

    Re: Surveys and Polling

No item on the roadmap has got as many votes as friendly urls, but this one (actually on the roadmap 2x, once as polls and once as automated voting tally, but mirror images of each other) is popular also.  I only see 2 with more votes-

Discount codes for member aps - 8 votes, 5 of 5
    Dynamic Flyouts - Vertical Menus - 6 votes, 4.83 of 5
    Polls/Voting/Surveys - 6 votes, 4.67 of 5

In a recent blog post, you mention that you are thinking about what to include in the October (2.37?) update and ask for feedback.  I'd love to see polls/automated voting/surveys/automated nagging find its way into that release!

I think all non-profits have to have by-laws and have to have at least periodic elections for directors, so I can't imagine that there is any non-profit that would not be able to use this feature.  Many people feel more comfortable casting their vote when voting is "blind", but you still have to be able to account for who has and has not voted - just like the US political ballots.  And if voting hasn't met the minimum number of people to count the votes, an automated nagging system to remind people that have not voted to get their votes in would be wonderful!

Taking it further, which might not apply to all, is the ability to apply this to the ad hoc groups being created in release 2.36.  Whether for ballot voting or polling, it would be great to be able to target it to the specific ad hoc group in question.

So I'm lobbying to see this in 2.37!!!!

    Re: Surveys and Polling

    Thanks for your comment.

By now 2.37 is pretty much defined - and polling did not make it yet, sorry. We need quite a bit of lead time to design the feature properly, once it has been prioritized and put into the next release.

Discount codes for membership is at the top of our agenda, though we might have to postpone it until we make the switch to Single Contact Database, which is a lot of work. (otherwise would have to redo it)

We are interested in a polling feature.  Yet, I'm sure we can use a plugin or widget of some sort.

    Re: Surveys and Polling

I'm interested in this for automated, controlled voting and automated nagging on member based votes, especially at the group level.  The ability to target the group that is allowed to vote, to know who in that group has or has not voted - without being able to tell how they voted - and to count the results and clip out the comments in a manner that doesn't tie them to any particular person.

The reason for it being in WildApricot and not a 3rd party tool is to have it tied into the members databse.

I think in addition to this, I probably still need to use 3rd party tools for our bb polls that are open to the public and not tied to membership records.  Although if I could use the WildApricot host for that also, it would be nice.

The problem with some of the on-going public polls is that once you set them up, you are pretty much tied to that company, so I hate making a decision without knowing what will become available here.  Do I wait for it on the bb stuff or go forward . . .

I was looking at PollDaddy earlier tonight and see that they have a new feature that seems to address being able to track who has voted.  I'm not sure if you can restrict who can vote or not . . . I'm not finding any information other than a short blurb that shows what the reports look like or details about the feature.  I don't know if you can tie 3rd party software into your software to shortcut your development or not . . .

Anyhow, if you have not looked at PollDaddy lately, they seem to have some updates in the survey and polling areas.

    Re: Surveys and Polling

BTW, after playing with Poll Daddy a bit, the comments they offer are not what I'm looking for.  They basically allow a write in vote.  On the votes by members, I'm looking for a space that people can add commentary about why they voted the way they did.  Especially for votes on whether someone should be juried or not - I want them to be able to vote yes or no and then add comments as to why they chose yes or no.  Really don't want any space limitations.

    Re: Surveys and Polling

Also, a lot of our votes (polls) are the same basic thing over and over - just with a new person's name.  It would be nice to be able to have a list of past polls that we could just copy and modify.
