Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

We would like to have "Visitor to Member" message feature:

Some people are not comfortable to publish their email address; some registered members complained that they received a lot junk emails since their registration.

Instead of display registered member's email address in the directory, can we use a link "Contact this member", when visitors click the link, a short message page will show up allowing them to enter their info and request, and the messages will be forwarded to member emails.(or something just like what Craigslist is doing  when you  respond to  classifieds)

    Re: Visitors contacting members

More members complained that they are receiving junk emails since they publish their email on our site.

Has WA added this function to TO-DO list yet?

When can we expect to have this "Visitor to Member Messaging" funciton?

    Thanks a lot!

    Re: Visitors contacting members

I have added this to our list of enhancements to consider.

No specific timeline as of yet.

FYI - the way our directory is implemented via Javascript it actually has a very low chance of being indexed by spam crawlers.

    Re: Visitors contacting members

Another important reason why we need this feature:

For membership-based organizations or e-businesses, the registered members' info, especially email address, is the most valuable resource/asset of the company. You don't want to share the contact list of your customers with the public, which should be easily understandable in the business world. Just like WA won't share your customers (us)' email list with your competitors.

This feature is critical for most organizations/ businesses even thought they might not be able to realize it at this point. We hope WA can put it in a much higher priority and develop it in the near future.

    Thanks a lot.

    Re: Visitors contacting members

It's really great to see new features coming every month by WA team!

This feature is currently our most wanted feature - is it possible to have it in the next release?

    Thanks a lot!

    Re: Visitors contacting members

As you can see here, so far we have relatively few people vote for this item - so we will have to address other more frequently requested items first.

    Re: Visitors contacting members

    This is a great idea.

It would also allow us to be able to track how much interest is generated by our website for our paying members.  We absolutely vote for this enhancement.

    Re: Visitors contacting members

    Absolutely!

We forgot to mention this important point last time - many potential members asked us how many leads we can generate for paid members and we have no evidence and numbers to demonstrate that since visitors contact registered members directly by emailing to them...with this feature we can keep track how much interest/leads have been generated by our website for paid members.

Like what we mentioned last time, this enhancement is very critical for the long-term success of e-business, even though many people have not yet realize that.

If this feature is not in the coming Aug release, we hope we can have it in the September release. Is it possible?

    Thanks.

    Re: Visitors contacting members

August WA updates are really great. We are looking forward to see this "Visitor to Member" messaging feature in the September release. Is it possible?

    Thanks.

    Re: Visitors contacting members

The scope of September release was finalized long time ago (as we had to do detailed analysis and design before starting development).

So for now Visitor to Member messaging is not in the works.

Then can you at least put this on the to-do list and start analysis? Thanks.

    Re: Visitors contacting members

How about a member to member capability yet still protecting the email identity of the sender? We have requested this often.

    Cheers,

    Re: Visitors contacting members

This enhancement is very critical for any database / membership-based website - to protect the members' contact info and help us keep track of the leads that our site generated for our members.........please vote for this feature so that WA can develop it sooner.........Thanks.

    Re: Visitors contacting members

I agree this would be an important and useful development. Is there a specific way to vote for this, or is it done by adding a voice of support like this message.

In the interim is there any way to tag on a simple footer at the bottom of each 'member profile', so that you could have the line "request to contact this member" which linked to an email to the administrator quoting the requester's id and the id of the member they wish to contact. The adminstrator could then facilitate the contact between the two parties if/when appropriate.

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

HI, I just signed up and didn't realize that email contact info is available for all members. I will have to look elsewhere for hosting as I have a privacy policy that emails will not be shared with anyone.

I do like the format very much and it's very easy to create something professional looking in a short time. But I cannot have email of members posted.

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

Member emails can be hidden or made available by you or members. We do not force you to show them in any way! This thread is about something different - a way to enable contacting members without showing their email. (Currently if you want the ability for public to contact members, you would have to expose their emails)

Everyone, please vote for this feature so that you won't receive complaints from your members about spams. Also this feature will help you protect your most valuable business resource - your members' email address; and keep track of the leads that your site send to your members!

    Thank you!!

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

YES!  This is an extremely important feature that we will need for our new member site.  I have yet to upgrade to a paid level, since we don't have all the details of the site done yet, but until I see that this feature is available, I guess I will hold off.  Member privacy is imperative for our site!

Re: Contact form to protect privacy of members while allowing visitors to contact

I didn't find this post until after I made a similiar request on http://www.wildapricot.com/forums/thread/10820.aspx

Wouldn't it be nice to have members correspond privately without revealing their personal email addresses?  I've seen this feature used on Dating Sites and thought it was a better way to protect our customers privacy.

I also voted this as an excellent idea, but I was unable to see how many votes this feature received.  Is there any news on if they'll be an update with this feature anytime soon? Everyone has good ideas
