    changing a page layout

For example I'd like the home page to have several columns. Can I change this through the interface, or should I hand code the HTML? This would also apply to other pages that I create, then need to taler to allow for additional columns, etc.

    Re: changing a page layout

Any existing page can be edited through HTML coding.
For example if you need to edit your home page:
Create a new content page (http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Content+pages+vs.+functional+pages)
by selecting 2 column template or any other available template (http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/How+to+add+web+pages)
Go to Edit / click on HTML button and copy the code.
Go to Home page, click on Edit, click on HTML button, scroll your existing code all the way down and paste the code from previous page, click Save button.
At the bottom of the page you will see a new empty 2 column layout. Copy-paste existing content in to the columns as desired.

If you need to add more columns/options then you would have to edit HTML directly.
