Just to elaborate a little further...
I realize that your "forum" and your "blog" are two different types of functionality, but they have some similar limitations that might be addressed in tandem.
For example:
You don't currently provide the built-in search capability for Blogs or Forums. I happen to be using a Forum page as a job posting area (I already saw you have a separate wish list thread for this item, but this is my workaround in the meantime).
I have successfully created a third-party search widget specific to searching that forum (for public/non-restricted pages). Unfortunately, I can't insert this directly at the top of my Forum page. If users want to "search the job bank" forum, I'm going to have to place it on a separate page and link back to the forum -- a little bit awkward from a navigation/search point of view.
The same is true for the Blog - if I wanted to create a little search widget to "search news" (what I'm using my blog for) I cannot insert it anywhere above the blog itself - which might be a meaningful place for it.
It would help immensely if, instead of just a "Description" field for either type of functional page, that you could allow for an editable area above or below the Forum/Blog name that also allowed for HTML editing or insertion of links/pictures (i.e. same tool palette you enable for your other webpages). You could limit the height of this - similar to how you have a "maximum height" for your header.
It would allow users to insert things like 3rd party search widgets, or direct links to other relevant pages, or even insert a graphic if they wanted to. Or even something like a mailto: link if their forums are moderated by an administrator.
Thanks for the time you take to read these suggestions. I really appreciate the feedback.
