Current behavior:
Members can upgrade from a free level to a paid level but can not change from one paid level to another or to a free one - this has to be processed by administrator manually.

Desired behavior:
Members should be able to change level via online self-service function in his profile
Ideally, administrator should be able to specify, which levels are 'upgradeable' (original) and which can be 'upgraded to' (new)

Notes:
1) We probably would not be able to to do this for levels with recurring payments initially
2) Our initial implementation will probably not do any pro-rating, if there is any time left over on the current level, it will not be refunded automatically - and new level price will be applied in full, just like it does for new members

We allow members to change levels and would definitely like to see this be something they can do on their own. 

For us,

o it does not make sense for a member to down grade until their renewal is due, because they do not get any refund.  So, at renewal, they should be allowed to downgrade if they so desire

o members may have to upgrade before their normal renewal period if they want to apply to be "juried", become a member of "JAD", etc.  We do not prorate.  Anyone that wants to upgrade prior to their next renewal date should be able to just by paying the difference in the membership fees.  Anyone wishing to upgrade at the renewal date should be able to choose the other membership level and simply pay the current renewal rate for that level.

Also, we have 2 basic membership categories set up - each with multiple levels

For example - general members and business members would be in one upgrade/downgrade path

Sponors at varying levels would be a completely different upgrade/downgrade path.

I vote for this!

Many of our members change over a year and require different things. They can not change any form of level without calling us first.

Its very time consuming the way it is now.

 This addition is a top priority for us!
