    Events lists

I'm curious if there's an easy way to display lists from the respective databases automatically on the home page. I'd like to create a sidebar on the home page that shows the 5 most recent new members, the 5 most recent news articles, and the 5 next events. I'd like this to be done in a very simple fashion: perhaps just a date and a headline that is a link.<br/><br/>Please see www.bgbg.org for an example of this.<br/><br/>It currently looks that the only way to display this kind of information on the home page is to update the links manually.<br/><br/>Thanks.

You are right, we do not have this capability at the moment - though we do plan to add it in the future.

The only workaround I can suggest is for events - you can use the RSS feed from the event list to create a widget (e.g. using widgetbox.com) and add it to your own homepage. (same would work for the blog module if you use it for news).

    Re: Events lists

    Hi Dmitry,

I just did exactly what you suggested and created a "blidget" on widgetbox.com that looks great. Only when I try to copy either their Flash embed code, or their javascript code, WA doesn't seem to accept the code, or doesn't want to display it.

I tried embedding on my Home page two different ways - they give you the option to put Flash "embed" code, or else javascript code. When I try embedding the flash, I get an error appearing on the Home page that says "widget not found".

If I try inserting the javascript as HTML or Script snippet, it simply doesn't appear at all.

Do I need to modify the code in some way (e.g. using proper beginning and end tags? put into an Iframe?) Any ideas? It's such a great tool, and there aren't many like it (believe me, I looked!!)

    Thanks for any help,

    Melanie

    Re: Events lists

I seem to have solved this problem.

I removed the OBJECT tags (beginning tag with all param values and end OBJECT tag that follows the close of EMBED tag).

I just left in the portion  that starts with <EMBED etc, etc />

And now it loads fine into my home page.

I recall having similar problems with copying embed code from sites like YouTube. The OBJECT tag seems to be problematic when pasting into other hosted sites.

An IFRAME also worked, if I was using an external page as my source. But embedding straight into the page is much nicer for the layout and simpler to manage.

FYI - in our tests we also found that Firefox inserted your original code just fine while IE somehow messed it up. (since our editor uses some browser components). We will be investigating this further and will update our help pages.
