Tracking codes for event and membership registrations

I'd like to be able to track where my event registrations come from.

For instance, if I advertise the event in some newsletter, I'd like to know how many people got referred to me through that newsletter.  This way I can pay for advertising on a contingency basis, i.e. based on the number of people they bring to an event.

If I could enable a text field for a special code that they need to get from a person referring them to me.  Ideally it would be a required field.  And if they don't have a special code they need to call me to get one.

On top of that, if I had my drathers, this special code may not be a required field but it would instead trigger a discount off the listed price giving them an insentive to enter it.  I know I'm probably asking for the moon here.  But hey, I like to dream and I don't see anything wrong with that.

I can even take it a step futher.  What if I could pass it a parameter much like in any affiliate tracking software. E.g. http://carita.memberlodge.com/Default.aspx?pageId=1198&eventId=363&mode=2&refId=12345.
And get this refId recorded along with the registration record. And ideally, it would create a cookie for someone who goes to the event page but doesn't register right away, and then comes back and pays.

I know, I know, now I'm asking for the sun.

Re: Tracking codes for event and membership registrations

There is a way to track efficiency of different channels right now, for example with Google Analytics (or any other similar web analytics software). There is a feature in Settings "Site-wide HTML/Javascript code:". Use it to insert Javascript code from your web analytics software. Then you should be able to view stats specifically for your events page - and see number by referrer URL.
For example, in Google Analytics you can go to Content Optimization\Content performance\Top content.
Find your events page in this list and use Analysis  options (click on arrow up to the left of the page), select Cross segment performance / Source. This will give you numbers by each referrer to your selected page (event).

All your other suggestions make good sense, we will note them and consider for our future development plans.

Just a short follow-up to let you know that we've added the option to customize event fields. You can now change/add the set of fields for each registration form to collect information specific to their event/organization.
