How Do I Create Multiple Interactive Calendars?

It looks like there are two options to create a calendar.  The Content page template of "Monthly Calendar" and the Functional Page template of "Event Calendar".  It does not seem that either will allow a decent ad hoc calendar.  Let me explain. Our site is a HOA site.  So we have multiple calendars that we would like to include as sub-pages on various spots on our site.  For example, one for the pool schedule, one for tennis events, one for the social events, one for clubhouse rental, etc.  These calendars would be separate and do not pull from any database.  We simply want to be able to go in and add items to the month and day, save and publish.  The Monthly Calendar template is bsically worthless as it is just a table that you manually edit.  It does not allow the user to click from month to month, change to weekly or daily view, etc.  Heck, it doesn't even have numbered days.  With this template I would have to make a new table for each month.  The features I need are those found in the Event Calendar.  Except the event calendar is a one instance only page that seems to only be able to pull data from events logged in the specific event fields database.

Am I missing something very simple here?  Certainly WildApricot has a calendar page with the functionality of the Events Calendar that lets me add ad hoc events, reminders, etc to any day I want with a simple Edit button. i.e.  open up the Pool calendar and on a certain day type " Pool Opens for Summer", click save and done.  Please tell me the dummy calendar table is not the only option.  Thanks for your help.

Re: How Do I Create Multiple Interactive Calendars?

I don't know if this helps you or not, but I've implemented multiple calendars by utilizing the tags feature.  For example, certain people in the organization such as the pool manager, social chairman, etc. have admin privileges to add/edit events.  When the pool manager adds an event, he adds the 'pool' tag to the event.  When the social chairman adds an event, she adds the 'social' tag to the event.  Sometimes there is overlap (e.g., community Luau at the pool) where the event would get both the 'pool' and 'social' tags.  See http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Event+categories+(tags%2C+labels for details.

Then I create several calendar pages (this is the functional Event Calendar, not the template).  Then I edit the settings for each calendar page and under the "events to show" category, I choose "Show events of these categories only" and check the 'pool' checkbox for the Pool calendar, the 'social' box for the Social calendar, and so on.  See http://help.wildapricot.com/display/DOC/Publishing+your+event+calendar for details.

Like I said, I don't know if this solves your problem or not, but it has worked for us.

Kim, thank you very, very much for taking the time to help me out like that.  I believe your solution is the best work around available and may keep me from having to find a 3rd party plugin.  Your knowledge of the app saved me a lot of trouble.

Side note: As is often the case, sometimes the customer knows more about how to use a product than the people that actually developed it.  Shame on WA for giving up on me so easy and not figuring out this workaround.  It still is a little ridiculous to have to go through these contortions just to enter a simple calendar entry.  So hopefully WA will get this basic functionality figured out.

     Hurray for the user community.

Wchester, we did not give up on you! Kim beat us to it :-)

BTW, here is a help page about using event tags and multiple calendars:

WA support is really some of the best around that I've seen.  Give them a chance, Wchester.  They're a good group.  Glad to help when I can.
