Wild Apricot Updates and Plans. May 2008

Recent updates

On May 22nd, we released our longest update ever — Wild Apricot version 2.33.  It included two really big chunks of work:

  1. Redesign of payment workflows for events, donations and membership payments. In our next release, around the end of June or early July, we will complete all the testing and polishing and finally launch our integrated credit card payment option!
  2. Moving the Wild Apricot system to a new set of servers. We're still in the same hosting center, but have upgraded to newer machines and increased the number of servers to maintain and improve system response time and reliability.
  • Note: If you used our IP address 216.128.25.34 for custom domain setup, you should change it to 206.196.16.30 in the DNS servers settings at your domain registrar, as soon as possible.

In addition to those two large items, we also managed to release a number of enhancements and improvements:

  • Ability to set which fields on the member profile page can be viewed by public vs. by members.
  • New field type for rules / terms of use on events and member applications.
  • Option to setup member database fields visible to members but only editable by administrators. See Online Help – Customizing your member database

  • Additional design customization capabilities: login area settings and ability to specify your custom color code
  • New design theme — Crimson flag

  • Event coupon codes — discounted registration for people who have a 'secret code'

For more details, see Release history.

Wild Apricot Roadmap and crowdsourcing

As many of our clients and blog readers know, we always appreciate ongoing feedback from our clients and it serves as the primary driver of our development priorities (a.k.a. "crowdsourcing" — using the wisdom of 'crowds' to help us prioritize and refine planned improvements).

In May, we took a big step forward in opening up our kimono ...er... our development process even further. We have published and are regularly updating the Wild Apricot Roadmap. This page lists about 60 of the most frequently requested changes and enhancements to Wild Apricot. These items are already on our roadmap for future releases. Now we invite your comments and votes on what are the most important enhancements for you — as well as any other input/specific details that will help us to meet your needs.

If you have other requests not listed there, please be sure to review our Wishlist forum and post your feedback there. Wishlist items are candidates for possible inclusion on our Roadmap.

Next planned release

Wild Apricot's next update is scheduled for the end of June or early July. Here's what we've got planned:

  • Finally launching integrated credit card payment option (right on our servers, without redirecting to the PayPal website)
  • Ability for members to change their levels to any other level (subject to administrator restrictions)
  • Email subscriptions to get notifications about new forum posts -- for the whole forum or a specific thread
  • Defaulting Advanced search parameters on the member directory to one of the saved searches
  • Print function to properly print any page in the system
  • Ability in the Advanced search function to select members by most recent renewal/upgrade date
  • Ongoing redesign of HTML to make interactive (functional) pages easier to customize

Hi! Thanks for all of the great improvements!

Something that would be a great help to my site, if my members can post their own events.

Thanks!

Thanks Christy. The best way to post about it on our discussion forum Wishlist (if you have not done so yet) - and explain in as much detail as possible how you would ideally like to see it work.
