Google Portal for Non-Profits Launched

Billed as a "a one-stop shop for tools to help advance your organization's mission in a smart, cost-efficient way," the newly launched Google for Non-Profits portal offers quick links to the most commonly used tools in the Google suite of services. It also highlights some cost-saving benefits that are available only to nonprofits.

Did you know, for example, that nonprofits can accept online donations through Google Checkout without setup or transaction fees until 2009?  Google for Nonprofits portal

Or that the Google Grants program invites nonprofits to apply for free online advertising?

Tips and tutorials for each tool aim to help your nonprofit find new and more effective ways to do its work online.

Look for the Quick Ideas and Get Inspired links for real-world case studies. Read about how New York Public Radio uses Google Analytics to shape its programming to its audience, for example, or how Crisis in Darfur, a project of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial, put a human face to their message with a mashup of images, multimedia, and Google Maps.

Who knows, perhaps your organization might be featured there in the future – In today's announcement of the portal launch, Google invites your stories of how its web tools have made a difference in the work of your organization. "As we improve and expand this site, we might contact you to ask if we can share your story with the non-profit community through our site."

Google's non-profit "center" is just a list of Google services. The only unique items highlighted there were the Google Grants ($100 per day for online ads) and free Google Checkout, both of which my organization already takes advantage of. Oh, and there was also a solicitation for non-profits to send in testimonials about how Google products have helped their non-profits. It seems more like Google’s doing it just as a publicity stunt…  That being said, I submitted a testimonial on behalf of the nonprofit I volunteer with (http://oyfp.org/BOS). :-)

Casey, I'm not surprised that a web-savvy organization like your On Your Feer Project Boston is already familiar with the most commonly used Google Apps, as well as the Grants and Checkout opportunities! Hopefully, having all of these topics in one place (illustrated with NFP-specific tips and ideas) will help other nonprofit groups that may be less experienced on the internet to catch up a bit with yours in the nptech arena. :)

If Wild Apricot is publicizing the free Google checkout for Non-Profits, when can we expect to have that integrated into the Wild Apricot auto payment process.

Thanks.

Our blog is a separate initiative, so our posts are not aligned in this way with our product business.

Nevertheless, Google Checkout is one of the payment options we plan to add.
