IT volunteers to help Canadian charities and non-profit organizations meet their technology needs

How many non-profits do you know that are struggling to find a qualified volunteer to create a website or to troubleshoot computer or network problems? My guess would be more than a dozen! From my experience, I can say all the non-profits I worked for over the years had technology problems. And I can guarantee that there are hundreds of organizations out there that are desperate to find IT help.

So where do you go to find the perfect match? MatchIT is a free public service provided for the benefit of Canada's non-profit community. Sponsored by Microsoft Canada, MatchIT, the IT Volunteer Matching Exchange is an IT volunteer matching exchange that connects skilled volunteers to IT and Web projects and opportunities in Canadian charitable and non-profit organizations.

What is MatchIT?

MatchIT is an online environment where charities and not-for-profit organizations can connect with Developers, IT Pro’s, Designers, Students or other technical individuals willing to volunteer their time and expertise to bring technology solutions to these organizations.

What does MatchIT do?

MatchIT will allow charities across the country to post virtual "want ads" describing opportunities to people that have inputted their volunteer profile to assist these organizations.  Additionally, Microsoft Canada Community Affairs will provide the applicable Microsoft software to the charities where appropriate.

How can I get involved?

  • If you're a Non-profit Organization (NPO) with technology needs, register your organization to post volunteer opportunities.
  • If you are interested in volunteering your time and technical skills to Canadian charities, simply visit MatchIT.ca and sign up.

Isn’t this a fabulous idea! That said, it would be great if this initiative is offered around the world and not just here in Canada.
