Wild Apricot usability review

Des Traynor is based in Ireland and writes a blog on usability and related topics.

What is cool about his blog is that he is frequently using video - many usability issues are much easier to explain and discuss in this way.

We just found out that his recent video review covered Wild Apricot. (He covers a lot of ground  in this video so look at the last couple of minutes for Wild Apircot-related stuff.)

We appreciate his positive feedback - and we especially appreciate his criticism of our sign-up process. It used to be that sign-up process redirected user to the newly established Wild Apircot website and gave no directions whatsoever what to do next.

I am saying "used to" because we have been working to remedy this for a while now, here are the main changes:

  • Login process has been changed so that user can select his own password  instead of waiting for one to be generated and sent to his email (Done)
  • Automatically logging the user in after the account opening page (Working on this)
  • A "dashboard" page will become the first page users see once inside the Wild Apricot system. This page will provide a list of recommended steps to set up and start using Wild Apricot (this page also provides an overview of key data - members database, event registrations and so on) (Working on this)
  • Usage tips - tidbits of useful information on how a particular function can be used. (Designing and planning for future releases now)

Our goal is to make Wild Apricot the word's easiest to use management software for associations and non-profits. We will make it conevenient to use without undergoing a lot of training or requiring a lot of tech savvy. This takes time and hard work - which we are prepared to invest as much as needed and highly appreciate feedback about using Wild Apricot:

  • What aspects of Wild Apricot are you finding most useful?
  • What sucks?
  • What functions is the service currently missing that you would most like to have introduced?

  • Industry news and upcoming events
  • Case studies and best practices
