Why did you call it Wild Apricot???

That's the question we are confronted with (along with some interesting expressions on the other person's face) whenever we mention the name of the system. Well, that's easy to answer. A friend has commented: ...it is definitely a better name than Wild Lemon or Wild Watermelon.

Coming up with a product name is a lot of fun - and a lot of brainstorming and hard work. Many other products in our industry have look-alike names like "MemberThis", "MemberThat".   We had similar naming ideas in our brainstorming list as well

MemberGate
EasyMembers
Associator
MemberSpace
Memberlodge

Why didn't we use any of the above? They are all BORING and not very human! We are very passionate about our product and we wanted its name to reflect its uniqueness and personal nature. We want people to have fun when they are using Wild Apricot and smile when they look at our name and logo.

Of course, we also get a kick out of seeing people's facial expressions whenever we mention the name.  We all work hard enough on what we do so why not have a little FUN.

Also, that's why our motto for the product is different from industry marketese-speak like "Our product is connecting you to your constituents to leverage communities". Ours is:Put your association on autopilot. get your sanity back.

We know that people working in non-profit organizations are underpaid and overworked. In fact, we volunteer in several non-profits ourselves. We know how crazy it gets sometimes.

Our drive and goal for Wild Apricot is to relieve association staff and volunteers of mind-numbing manual administrative chores. Wild Apricot will automatically send reminders about events, handle online registrations, remind members about ucpcoming renewals, let members themselves update their data. So you can have the weekend off - and/or do some creative thinking, not just doing and doing and doing.
